It's ALL been said before but I think it has something to do with the age group and judgemental mindset of the LP authors of the Philippines guidebook. The Philippines is NOT typical of "mystical" Asia where the religions of Islam, Hinduism, Sufism Sikhs, and various types of Buddhism make most of the countries in Asia a whole another "planet" which impresses the intellect of the travel writers. So their coverage of the Philippines is limited and their disdain for in many ways its similiarity or westernization is not hidden in their attitudes, lack of details and limited content.

But there's a Filipino guy, IVAN HENARES whose blog is a LIVING LONELY PLANET GUIDE for the Philippines and would be a great choice as the NEW LP author of the their LP Philippines guidebook so let this act as a nomination. Ivan About Town

hi,

i guess you don't have to blame LP for not "liking" or having little interest in the philippines because we don't need them to promote are beloved country. we know more our country more than they do. what they may say may not reflect the true image of the philippines. i guess what makes us unique from the rest of asia is that we don't rest of being a cheap destination but rather we go for the more than the usual destination....Let the Philippines be the Pearl of the Orient...like a pearl that you have to dive in deep on rough seas to experience its BEAUTY!

It's all about first hand experience!

If you want tourism, you need promotion! Some countries recieve very little info about the Philippines via travel agents etc.

Actually, let's keep it that way.
Who wants the "kicked out of Thailand" brigade descending on them?

Hi PhilippineHunter,

Here's 2 tips from a fellow Asean country,

1) Don't assasin your politicians. Jail them, lock them up, but don't knock them off.

2) Gun control. News like police capt telling this men to tape their guns and not go bang bang to celebrate new year is scary; gives impression of lawlessness.
