Hi there,

In October I am in Hong Kong, after that (around the 23rd Oct) I would like to fly to Cebu to dive and chill on the beach. But now I see that it is hurricane season. Would you recommend to go there, or is the chance really big that the weather is really bad.

Not hurricanes but typhoons. Nobody can predict when a typhoon will strike, yes its possible, but Ive been in the Philippines in October for many years and you will get plenty of warning if one is on the way. Wouldnt ever stop me visiting..

Typhoon season in the Philippines DOESN'T mean all-day everyday. You've got to try your luck sometimes.

Check WeatherUnderground tropical situation page for the west Pacific, you'll get plenty of warning of approaching weather systems.
Also consider Bohol for your trip, there's lots of good diving around Panglao Island, and we are seldom affected by the passing typhoons.
Enjoy!

I've been there in the wet and the dry season. Actually you are going in late Oct. it will pretty much be turning to dry season. I have been there during a Typhoon, which, by the way is the same thing as a Hurricane, they just call them different names in Eastern Hemisphere. I saw a lot of rains and flooding, but it didn't phase anybody, because they average 28 or so Typhoons per year. I would avoid the eastern islands, like Leyte, if the weather is stormy, because that's where the storm surge is worst. But, if like I know people who were staying in Boracay during the last huge Typhoon, and everything was fine there. But, if you go to some remote place like in Mindanao or elsewhere, you might encounter mudslides and major flooding. I wouldn't allow the wet/Typhoon season make it a deal breaker for your trip. I've been there in the wet season, where it was actually dry most of the time. So, you gotta just go for it.

@5,
-AFAIK there is no such thing as Eastern Hemisphere. ONLY Northern and Southern Hemisphere. That's HEMISPERE
- Mindanao is Remote Place? You kidding? Flooding and Mudslide in Mindanao as if the whole of Mindanao is eroding?
You are one of the typical people who has no clue about Mindanao but they talk about Mindanao as if they are always there. How many time have you been to Mindanao? For crying out loud, it hasn't rain in my part of Mindanao since January. It's drought at the moment...

FYI https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Hemisphere
Could have found that by yourself too.

Wow, you guys. A hemisphere refers to dividing a globe or sphere into halves with arbitrary imaginary lines as original sailors and cartographers did. So, there is plausibly an Eastern Hemisphere.
To answer your question, I've been to Mindanao x 3; and I will be returning for a third Mindanao trip next month! I'd say parts of Mindanao have less infrastructure than places like Cebu, or Bohol. So yeah, places like parts of Mindanao and Palawan have less infrastructure, less paved roads. Mindanao has mountains; mountains + heavy rain = mudlslide, just like in California where I live or any place in the world that combo happens. But, the reason I mentioned the mudslide in my original reply was because friends of mine who live there gave me there first hand account of it. By the way, I seen Bohol before and after the earthquake, and I seen where a huge cliff fell away into one of my favorite swimming spots under a waterfall there. Scary. So mudslides, earthquakes, and falling rock do happen in PI. But, like I said, I wouldn't let make that cancel his trip. So stop trolling me you jerk. I've been to the Philippines 10 x over a decade. Many of my Filippino friends tell me I've seen more of their country than they have. Take my advice or leave it. No reason to be a troll. Peace out.

He started out by failing big time off the bat. The rest is just nonsense too. Thanks for the ref. and back up. I think this cat needs to check out the community guidelines for posting. Cheers, Eastbound101
