Hi - I want to go to Hinunangan on the east coast of southern Leyte. I'll be coming from Bato or Maasin on the west coast (having arrived from Bohol); does anyone know how to get there on public transport? I'm guessing I'd go to Bontoc/Sogod then south towards Liloan then back up and around, but there might be a trick to it.

Also - once there do I have to retrace my steps to get out, or is it possible to continue north to Abuyog on the main highway?

Thanks - Andrew

There are no scheduled boats from Bohol to Maasin, so you will arrive in either Bato or Hilongos. Either way, your route is correct - Bontoc, Sogod, then turn to San Bernard and Hinunangan shortly before reaching Liloan.

There is now a good road north from Hinunangan to Silago and then Abuyog. If your heading to Cebu you don't need to go all the way to Ormoc as there are (slower) ferries from Maasin (3 times a week), Bato (nightly) and Hilongos (daily and nightly) to Cebu City.

Thanks everyone. I'll be headed back to Cebu, that's correct, via the Camotes, and also thought I might go up to Biliran first, so Ormoc is likely the more practical route.

One thing I should have asked about the Hinunangan route: is it worthwhile? I've never been to that side of Leyte, is it nice/pleasant/interesting?

Thanks again.
