Hi,

I've researched online for hours trying to work out if I can get an Indian tourist visa in Manila and still had no luck finding a definitive answer. I haven't been back to the UK for 1 year so was unable to get a visa at home.

Here is some of the relevant, but conflicting info I have come across:

http://www.indembassymanila.in/eoi.php?id=Visa
suggests that UK nationals CAN get a visa

http://www.blsindiavisa-ph.com/forms/visa_application_process_for_eoi_website.pdf
"Non-Philippine nationals, who are on a short visit and not resident here
should obtain a visa for India from the country of their normal residence or
country of origin"

I have also read on various forums of people being able to do it as long as they can explain why they are not applying from their home country and showing patience, but these seem to have been a few years ago, so maybe no longer relevant?

If worst comes to worst, I could fly to Laos (although I'm not sure I could get a visa in Vientiane?) and then spend a few days sorting it out in Bangkok, but I'd really really rather not, and don't mind some hassle in Manila to avoid doing so.

Thanks in advance for any help!
Henry

it does not seem to me an especially complex enquiry.

have you thought about just picking up a telephone and calling up the India embassy in Manila, and asking them, rather than spending about three days looking at various websites?

you wouldn't have too much of a problem with communication I would have thought, seeing as both countries have a reputation for speaking good English. Which is why millions of the citizens of both of them work in international call centers.

if your living in manila -why not visit the embassy?

they haven't said anything about where they are located. The OP mentions 5 countries, but doesn't say which country they are actually located in right now. Not that that matters. All they have to do is pick up a telephone and call them wherever they are. Googling India Embassy Manila phone number might be a better idea than endlessly trawling internet forums.

even if he is Nicaragua, surely calling them up and asking them - they will speak fluent English - is better than endlessly trawling internet forums.

they might have to buy a Nicaraguan phone card or something though, so the call is not all that expensive.

I'm in Japan with no access to a phone, but I think I might try and use a pay phone or something

ah so he is in Japan with no access to a phone. That takes talent. Where is he? Abseiling down the crater of Mt. Fuji?

I'm going to check the Thorn Tree North East Asia (Japan) branch. Maybe he'll post on there, asking people how to make a phone call.

Picking up the phone and calling the embassy sounds like a good ideas since you can get immediate response on what are the next steps that you have to take for your visa.
