Dear all,

I'm planning our trip to the philippines and am looking for information concerning the ferry from Bantayan island to Negros (think port there is at Cadiz).
We will be there in the middle of March 2016.

Does any one of you have information if it is available every day and at which time?

Thanks, Grete

Ferry Boats to Bantayan Town Pier from Negros:

Ferry’s come & go to Bantayan from Cadiz & Sagay in northern Negros several times during the week - usually every other day for about P200 - departures on pump boats (3.5hrs./rougher ride) & big Ferries (4hrs/very smooth ride) from Negros are at 10am in Cadiz/Sagay, and those boats also depart Bantayan Town Pier at 10am bound for Negros.

  • I personally recommend traveling via the larger/heavier Ferry, as opposed to the smaller pump boats - even at 50ft/60ft. long, these pump boats are in open water (deep water) - and are more suseptable to waves & high seas, and on occasion can be a very rough (read dangerous) ride.

Stay Safe: Always use common sence & pay attention to 'pre incident indicators': if any ship or boat does not appear to you as sea worthy, or if it looks obviously over crowded, or if high seas give you pause for thought, then don't get on (take another boat on another day or travel by other means)

Schedules & departure days sometimes do change, so you’ll need to check the day before, or just arrive early by 8:30am. and wing it. (in Bantayan Town, just ride up to the Pier and confirm when the boats are leaving/arriving)

  • Ferry boats to Negros do not leave from Santa Fe Pier; they leave only from Bantayan Town Pier.

The above copy-and-pasted stuff is years old, and hopelessly out-of-date. That's what they were writing in the Lonely Planet about 10 years ago.

I stuck my head around the harbour master's office door in Bantayan town about a year ago, and enquired the situation.

As of the, boats leave every day, not every other day as previously.

Cadiz is the only Negros port served, not Sagay. This has been the situation for at least five years. The boat left early in the afternoon to do the four hour journey.

OP don't worry about this one. Just go to Bantayan port of to enquire the latest scheduele after you arrive in Santa Fe.

Callippo, I should be going to Bantayan Town soon, if I get the chance in the next few days I will enquire as to the current situation and post back..

He needn't worry the OP can just hire a motorbike in Santa Fe, drive to the port and enquire for themselves. As of last year they were departing at 1pm. You could probably get from Bantayan to Bacolod that night. But if not there's inexpensive lodges in Cadiz.

I think there is a single ro-ro now and no pumpboats. It is handy link, it means people can do circular tours between Cebu and Negros using Bantayan as a 'stepping stone' like I am doing later today between Cebu and Leyte, using Camotes.

Grete, we visited the Coastguard at Bantayan Town pier today and this is what he told us: There is now only one sailing per day form Bantayan Town to Negros and it goes only to Cadiz. There is no longer any sailing at all to Sagay. It is a large motorized banca, not a ro-ro and departs every day at 9am. Journey takes about 2.5 hours.
Hope this helps..
