Hi!
I could get to Cagayan de Oro on Cebu ferries or Trans Asia. Which one is safer and more reliable (or safe and reliable at all)?
As I am on my own, is it possible to book just one space in a cabin?
Cheers,
Liberty

From Cebu to Cagayan de Oro? Based on my years or a decade of ferry travel from Cebu-Cagayan-Cebu, I would say Cebu Ferries is still more reliable than Trans Asia. Cebu Ferries is a sister company of Superferry. Though both ferries had some minor accidents before but nothing that serious. I experienced some of these accidents and I am still alive :-) Kidding aside, I never get a cabin for myself. If something goes wrong, you would be the last person to know. That is why I usually get the Tourist accommodation which is basically an open airconditioned room with bunks. By the way their cabins are usually good for 4 persons. If you want some privacy, get the suites.

There are flights from Cebu to Cagayan de Oro via Asian Spirit. Cebu Pacific will be serving this route at the end of this month.

I've travelled the route in both directions between Cagayan de Oro and Cebu many times by ferry. It's a very enjoyable experience, steaming through the sea at night, and it saves one night's accomodation costs. I usually travel tourist class. It's safe and comfortable. Reserve a lower bunk when you buy your ticket. The top bunks are close to the lights and the freezing ducted air-conditioning vents. Economy class is too open and cramped. I've travelled in the cabins also. They hold four, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are full. There may only be two of you. You just buy one berth in the cabin, but I've never had a cabin that has been full. They are same sex cabins, of course. I once complained to the captain about an obnoxious Korean who shared my cabin, and he upgraded me to a suite all by myself for free. The ferries have quite good meals and there are bars and usually entertainment - like karaoke or a singing duo. Bring your own drinks and snacks. The on-board shop is very expensive. Cebu Ferries may be slightly better, but Trans Asia is fine also. There is only a few pesos difference in price between them. Bon Voyage!

Thank you for your replies.
I would like to get some sleep.
By the way, do you know about diving around there?
Cheers,

There are a few dive sites within the province. Check these websites

http://www.dukabay.com
http://www.divecamiguin.com/

These places are east of Cagayan de Oro City and near to Camiguin Island.
