I have already checked out that as well.
Hard to get information about that on the internet. Guidebooks are outdated.
Is the "security situation" around there stable?

Yes, very stable. The Eastern and Northern part of Mindanao is quite safe. You can read all about it in LP guidebook. I find their comments about Mindanao safety reliable.
