I'm looking to spend a few days on Bohol, arriving from Leyte tomorrow.

Later next week I'll turn up on Panglao for a few days however Hope Homes and Calypso won't charge any less - 750 and 790 respectively - for a room WITHOUT a motorbike.

So I'm thinking maybe I might stay in Alona after all - IF I can get a decent t value fan room

Does anyone know anywhere. Names? Phone numbers?

If anyone can Google on my behalf that might be useful. Internet very slow here

Shut up ASEAN. San Francisco, Camotes 300, Ormoc 400, Biliran 400, Baybay 400, Matalom where I am now 450 and that's an airconditioned room too. Maybe you can find an airconditioned room with a double bed in it for 450 somewhere else, but good luck with that one ASEAN. Thanks Surfie.

Surfie hasn't realised, how bad the internet is here and how absolutely essential, text messaging, not internet, which is useless, is here in the Philippines. I needed names and phone numbers preferably delivered by text message. Not weblinks, that take 15 minutes to load.

I remember years ago when I got a beachfront room at Alona Tropical, it cost 500 peso for a great room with quite possibly the best swimming pool in the area, now of course those room have been replaced with 3000 peso rooms, one of the reasons, along with the almost complete absence of decent local food, that I have never been back to Panglao..

What I'll probably do is stt MELLOW APARTELLE in Tagb - 600 peso, for an aircon room WITH A SWIMMING POOL and go into Alona on a scouting mission. Those links are out of date, the phone numbers don't work etc.

Accommodation in the Philippines is just over-priced. Although there are bargains there. Like MELLOW APARTELLE where I am now.

Take Anda. I looked over about eight resorts there on Sunday. Lovely spot. Excellent whitesand beaches. But almost no guests. Most of them were completely empty 12 days before Christmas. Nobody wants to know. The rooms are double to triple what they are n Thailand and Vietnam. Over-priced accommodation is one of the main reasons why the Philippines gets so few tourists.

Tend to agree, so many places now where its so difficult to find decent budget accommodation, feel sorry for people I see staying in really crap places because there is no alternative. One of the main reasons why we are so reluctant to leave our little slice of paradise here and venture further, years of experience has taught us that as soon as we leave we have to put up with substandard choices and high prices. Of course there are excptions, but few and far bewteen..
