I am taking a 7-9 day trip with my girlfriend this Dec-Jan to the Philippines and need some help and advice from all the seasoned vets. I am debating between essentially all 7-9 days in either El Nido or Coron. Leaning towards Coron. We want to dive (learn to that is), relax, see beautiful lagoons, and spend New Years in a nice, yet not too kitchy or expensive "resort".
We are looking for a hotel that isnt too expensive and fancy, yet has something to remember ( in a good way). I d appreciate any advice anyone can give.
What are everyone's thoughts: El Nido or Coron for circa 1 week stay?

Have a look at Sangat Island Reserve, near Coron. Excellent dive instruction, very personal, very private (only place on the island), not cheap but comfortable, and cheaper than the high-end places around El Nido.
