I am thinking of visiting Ati Atihan, and would arrive on the Friday. I am debating as to whether to stay for the last day (Sunday). I have read in some places that you absolutely "must" stay for the last day. How special is that last day? I assume that on Friday and Sat, there will costumed parades and parties. And unfortunatly, I can't find a detailed enough schedule of events as to the last three days.

There is a 4:30 pm or 7:30 pm Sunday night flight out of Kalibo that I would probably want to catch. Doing so would give me the jump on flying somewhere else, like Coron or El Nido.

Can who has been there tell me what I would be missing?

Thanks in advance!

Have been to the Ati Atihan festival twice, but only for the last day, so don't know what the minor events on earlier days are like.

Great fun, great atmosphere, a day-long party. Costumes are amazing. It's much smaller than Cebu's Sinulog, so you get to see the whole parade up close. Well worth staying for the Sunday if you can.

I was there in 2005, when a policeman went on the rampage, killing seven people, including five police officers, the morning of the festival. Dozens were injured. Amazingly, they didn't cancel the festival, but continued it in memory of the people killed.

Sorry to hear about the shooting trota.

Well, I decided to stay in Coron for Sunday. My Filipino friend said that I should absolutely not skip the last day whatsoever!

And instead of trying to do both El Nido or Coron, I am probably going to do just Coron. El Nido is just too hard to get too. You have to go to PP and 5 hour bus it. I HATE long bus rides, and I heard that the Underground River is overrated.
