Well according to the BBC article I read this morning he will be sentenced to life imprisonment in his country estate! haha.

Yep what a joke.
China on the other hand executed their food and drug minister for being corrupt!
Estrada has some influence in the country and he can create trouble if he wants to. I am sure there was a back door "negotiation" and his detention in his resthouse was the "compromise" deal. Almost anything or everything in the Philippines is "negotiable" if you have the money and influence.
I really favored the exile of Estrada. Like Marcos, he should have been sent out of the country. In this way, he could not play politics in the Philippines as he did for the past 6 years. Imagine if Marcos was in the Philippines during the Aquino Administration. Aquino would not survive 6 years in office. Marcos at that time still had influence in the military and some public officials. Marcos only went on exile because he was already pressured by the United States. He was airlifted from the Palace by a US chopper and sent to Hawaii courtesy of Uncle Sam who supported his dictatorship through out the years. I even suspect his residence in Hawaii was a "retirement gift" by Uncle Sam.
#8, so we let everyone out of jail because we are all the same? In that case we become like Africa. We just let the mob decide what is best for the country.

I hate Philippine politics. The reason why I left the Philippines. Politics were the number topic at the dining table when I was growing up.
Please remind me next time to keep off the keyboard if politics is being discussed LOL Now you know WHY foreigners should never discuss politics or religion with Filipinos unless you are ready for a full length debate with matching charts and slide shows :-D

That was a different guy, one of the ones involved with the toys recalled for having high levels of lead in the paint or something.
#20 - Good advice. A lengthy debate would not be too bad. Could well get shot for disagreeing with a filipino!
Lawyers of Erap have plans to appeal to the higher courts. They say it's just the beginning. And Joma Sison has been released out of prison today Thursday 13 Sept. The courts in The Hague could not find enough evidence to prosecute him.
