Hi all,

What kind of weather can I expect in Sarawak and Sabah late July/August?
I will be travelling for almost 4 weeks and visit Kuching, Bako, the Iban longhouses, Mulu, walk the Headhunters Trail, Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, Kinabatangan, Sepilok and Pulau Tiga (in that order).

I'm wondering if it will be sticky hot or maybe rainy? Just trying to figure out what to bring (raincoat?).

And I also have a question about the appropiate way to dress: is it OK to wear sleeveless shirts and shorts or will I need to cover my shoulders and legs?

Thanks in advance!

VERY HOT and STICKY ; a raincoat is optional. Raincoats can be like wearing a portable sauna, as it is still hot when it rains. Short sleeved shirts and shorts to the knees are appropriate just about anywhere. Sandals are appropriate too, but on treks, light (breathing) hiking shoes are preferable.

August is great weather for the places you are travelling. Yes it will be hot and sticky, but that's always. Very little rain, if any. You really don't need to worry about what you wear as long as it's not too revealing. Don't bother with a raincoat, if it rains you will be dry in a second (as long as you're not perspiring. Half your luck, I have been to a few of the places you are going to and you will have a great time.

You don't say where you're from but if you are going to Sandakan to see Sepilok, take in the Malaysian, English, Australian War Memorial. It is extremely moving and a very beautiful place.

Malaysia lies near the Equator; being a tropical country there's bound to be rainy day for July since you're hitting Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, Kinabatangan, Sepilok and Pulau Tiga. Nevertheless it wont be as heavy/daily like during the raining season
