Anyone know when is the sandfly season or best time of year to visit? I'm thinking early august for a week or so
I've been there in July and in August, without any sandfly problems.....of course that does not mean its impossible, but if there were any they didn't bite me!

I stayed in Tekek for 4 days in May and didn't have any problems with sand flies. I didn't really sunbathe so maybe that's the reason... But I stayed at a cottage on the beach, went swimming and for a walk at sunset and it was perfectly fine.
I really loved it: the snorkel was way better than what we experienced in the Perhentians and you get that lost island feeling... For postal type photos and resting Perhentians is better, but for everything else I prefered Tioman.
Some beaches are permanently sandfly free. I've only ever seen them on Juara and Salang.
Hi guys
heading to Tioman in about a week , are there are any cheap backpacker lodges or chalets there and what price am I looking at?
I assume the livelier location is the west coast? I'm a golden oldie so dont need nightlife to be honest just a quiet beer in the evening!! plus a nice quiet, clean room,
appreciate any advice , also someone posted about some other islands in the Mersing location, might they be cheaper?
I'm looking to kill about 10 days relaxing on a nice sunny beach, but looking for budget places,
many thanks in advance
