On our way back from Indonesia, we have a stopover at KLIA and have decided to spend break the journey and spend two days in Malaysia. What we're not sure about is wether we should go to Kuala lumpur or some other place, such as Melaka?

Last I was in KL was about 10 years back and not much seems to have changed. Is there anything to do in Melaka? Food, culture, entertainment? Of course, if not Melaka, we'll stick to KL since we know the city and can always find stuff to do for two days. Oh and we arrive midnight in KLIA, possible to go to Melaka then or we'll have to wait till the morning?

I personally find Melaka more interesting and pleasant than KL.
Especially if you've already been to KL but not yet to Melaka, you should definitely choose the latter. I'd definitely wait till morning with moving on there though. Melaka is only about 2 hours from KL, and arriving there at 2-3 am might not be fun.

Thanks Laszlo.

Any idea what time the bus starts from KLIA2 for Melaka? Can I book online? Also some tips on stuff to see and do in Melaka would be helpful. Thanks a tonne

The bus timetable is online, you can google it as quickly as I could.
Also, you can google Melaka's attractions in much less time than it would take me to write a summary. It is not exactly a secret place. :-)

Also for me , Melaka would be my first choice.
Transnational bus leaves KLIA for Melaka Sentral and makes a quick stop in at KLIA 2( about 15 minutes after leaving KLIA).
KLIA airport website is very useful for schedules.....though unless changed from 2012 (quite possible I guess), the last bus leaves KLIA early hours (definitely after midnight as I used the last bus on one of my three visits back in 2012).....the first bus of the day heading for Melaka leaves around 8am or 9am......though you should check the transnational website via KLIA website.
I enjoyed Melaka....for me it was a fun place to be with Jonker St night market (weekends only)being a favourite haunt if only to watch the older generation Chinese folk get up on the karaoke stage at the bottom end of the street and let rip!!!!....there is maybe 2 days worth of sightseeing (for me at least).......though I did visit the town three times 2012....and will possible be there again end of this month.

Another vote for Melaka - its a very nice town with a good mix of malay/chinese/portugues/western culture and influence, and with great food. There are no major sights, but its a great place to stroll around, visit some temples and churches, a museum in an old chinese house, the fort etc. There is defenitely enough to keep you busy for 2 days.

I have found Melaka very interesting too, not as nathalie has said for spectacular sights but for its history - so many successive cultural stages.

Yet another vote for Melaka! Definitely stay in Chinatown, and don't miss Nancy's Kitchen! For me the zoo was an unexpected delight; of course it's not Singapore but it was surprisingly good.

Melaka is very high on my list of places to recommend...

Various companies operate buses that run directly between KLIA and the heart of Melaka, and these run through the night so you might not need to wait long. One point to note: Melaka Sentral is actually a long way from the attractions, and the journey is both expensive and unpleasant. So if you can get a bus that goes directly to the Medical Centre that would save both money and hassle.

Some of these buses can be booked on-line through the Easybook web site. However, some of them have no web presence at all: if you have not booked in advance then just go to the basement of your arrival terminal at KLIA and tour the sales counters for the various bus companies, and you will probably be able to buy a ticket on the spot for a convenient departure.
