My wife and I will be going to the Perentians next week and am hoping to get some suggestions on lodging options. We'd like to stay on Kecil, but am open to other areas too.

We'd like lodging with hot water, our own bathroom and air-conditioning.

Our budget is about $75/night-- lower if possible.

Has anyone stayed at Bubu Resort on Long Beach? It gets decent reviews.

Perhentians is an island....forget the airconditioning and hotwater unless u want to stay at 5 star resort...everything there is run by generators. most places the water is from the well pump. visit perhentian.com.my for some info

Try the coral view resort. Nice airconditioned chalets on the beach for RM 280 / USD 75 range. You can book through Ping Anchorage.

I've never been to Perhentian before, but I was searching the net these few days for some tours around Malaysia and I thought that Cuti.com.my is quite useful... The packages that they have are not bad too...

Perhentian tours contains some packages, including the Bubu Resort you were asking about. On the tab above- where the "hotel info" is, are pictures of the mentioned hotel, and services. I thought it looks nice, and the rooms should have an attached bathroom with hot water and air-conditioning.

Coral View Resort is in Perhentian Besar, and it is also in one of the tour package...

But I think that the tour package is more than your budget... The cheapest costs RM 520 (Bubu Resort, 3D2N) per person. However, the package includes the 2 way speedboat transfer from the jetty to the hotel, as well as 3 snokerling trips. And breakfasts+lunches</i>dinners. According to my friends who went to Perhentian before, the food are very expensive and they had to eat instant noodles there cos they had a very tight budget.

I'm not sure how much are the room rates without the package though... But I hope I helped you some how or rather...

All the best!

We stayed at Tuna Bay Resort (they have a website) and it was wonderful. It's the second-best place in the Perhentians - the best place doesn't always get favourable reviews. There are no 5-star resorts on Perhentian. We paid RM160 per night for two people including a great buffet breakfast. The rooms are small (but you don't spend much time in them anyway) but the furnishings are good quality. The Resort facilities are great, with a big open restaurant, a small bar, deck-chairs, etc. All rooms have aircon, own bathroom and hot water. The beach outside is wonderful and about 10 metres into the water and you come across colourful fish and coral - you can go snorkelling by just taking a few steps from shore. There is enough room between the shore and the coral to give you room to swim.

I'm also thinking in going to the Perhentian for 3 or 4 days next October: Julie, which is the best-place? Did you take a 3 days/2nights snorkelling package at Tuna Bay Resort? I don't know what's better, taking a package or not... Thanks!

Oriol - I THINK it's called Coral View Island Resort. It should be in the LP guide.

Thanks Julie! Do you think it's a good idea taking a 3 days/2 nights package? I think I'll also stay at Tuna Bay...

Oriol - presumably your package includes diving which is located next door to Tuna Bay Resort. I'm not sure what the prices would be for diving so unfortunately I can't say whether it would be good value or not. I didn't take a package as I didn't go diving (just snorkelling), but rooms were RM160 per night for two people including two big buffet breakfasts. Snorkel hire is RM10 per person per day (you can get it cheaper if you go to one of the two nearby shops). A meal + soft drink costs around RM10 per person (ie. slightly more than the mainland, but not much more) - they have good food at the Tuna Bay but there is also a good little local restaurant to the left of the resort.
