Hi. I'll be in Malaysia for about 3 weeks total.

I was planning on spending 3 days (2 and a 1/2 after travel time) on either Tioman or Pulau Tiga in August.

Tioman sounds really nice, but it would be an extra flight, and I'm afraid that it will be too crowded on the Singaporean holiday weekend when I'd go (Aug. 9-11).

Pulau Tiga sounds really good from the Rough Guide, but people on this forum don't seem to think too highly of it. I liked the idea that it might be a bit more unique than Tioman and would give me a little more time in Borneo.

At the end of my trip, I'll have 5/6 days in the Perhentians....just in case that changes anyone's opinion.

To get to Tiga you will have to get a bus from KK (about 2 hrs) to Kuala Penyu and then the ferry across to the island. Tiga (means three) is a very small island with only a couple of accommodation choices which may or may not be available. Snorkelling and lazing around are about all there is to do there. You are close to Labuan and also The Klias Wetlands on the mainland (Proboscis Monkeys, fireflies). I stayed at the Proboscis River Lodge last weekend and saw plenty of both. To get from Kuala Penyu to Labuan is really easy just 30 mins by mini bus to Menumbok where the vehicle ferry leaves 10.30ish and 4.30ish RM5 each way or there are express ferries to/from KK. From Klias it is only about 30 mins as well - a sort of triangle. There are also express buses to/from KK, Menumbok for each ferry sailing.

Tioman is significantly larger so offers a much wider range of accommodation choices although I suspect you would find that Singaporean visitors will stick to the top end properties like the Berjaya. Due to the lack of roads, most travel around is done in water taxies. The two times I was there - Panuba and Paya Beach Resort - we did a couple of snorkelling trips but mostly just stayed put.

Hope this isn't too confusing.
