I am flying to Kaula Lumpur on the 30th till the 4th and wanted to ask what are the things to do? I love nature (would LOVE to go snorkeling), history, mosques/temples... and am from US, currently in China. Hope that helps as to what I like doing. I will be going alone, so am also looking for cheap stays.

Being that I fly in and out of KL, it would be convenient to stay near... BUT I am very willing to travel around if there are things to around. Unfortunately I will have a descent amount of luggage with me, so it will be no fun lugging that around :(

Please help!

Thanks!
AA

great snorkelling sites are usually found on the prestine beach of East Malaysia, especially in Sabah. But there are still some really interesting beaches in the West. Maybe you can try Pulau Perhentian or Pulau Redang both located on the East coast of west malaysia. And you find lotsa mosques there too cause most people in the East coast are mostly muslims. I believe you could find information booth upon your arrival in KLIA. those people will be more than happy to get you informed. Its the Visit Malaysia Year2007! Enjoy!

All available on the west coast or KL itself. For snorkeling you'd have to go to the east coast. It'd involve a flight or two and probably some boat rides out to the islands. Check the Air Asia website.

Hi!
You can get all those that you have mentioned in KL except snorkeling. Stay at city centre, more things to do.. snorkeling you have to go to the east coast, more convenient to take flight, airasia can be quite cheap.. check out their website www.airasia.com

enjoy your stay!

when you guys say "east" - what city are you referring to? And what city should I fly to in that case?

Also, how much of a budget do you think I need? I'm on a tight budget (have several other countries Im going to next)

My only concern for places to stay is - I have a descent amount of luggage (just clothes and stuff)... so, at the least, I prefer not to leave sight of at least my laptop...

Thanks!

Khota Baru. Also where you get a taxi or bus to go to Pulau Kapas. Not a bad place actually. Accommodation from basic to mid- level, a wreck in the bay and some snorkeling equipment when I was there.

Kota Bharu is the state capital of Kelantan, on the east coast of peninsular Malaysia. There is little of interest in the town itself; most travellers simply pass through on their way to the Perhentian Islands.

Kota Bharu has a small but new and efficient Sultan Ismail Petra Airport (KBR) in Pengkalan Chepa currently receives flights from Kuala Lumpur (provided by Malaysia Airlines and Air Asia).Buses connect Kota Bharu to all major cities in peninsula Malaysia. Catch the Transnasional bus from Puduraya Kuala Lumpur which will set you back like about RM33, luxury VIP buses running around RM50-60.

Hostels can be found in the area near the Central Market.
• KB Backpackers Lodge, 1872-D (above Azam Photo), Jalan Padang Garong, 012-988-5068. Rates RM10-35.
• Lee Guesthouse, 263 Jalan KK1/9 (off Jalan Pasir Puteh) 60 9-747-9663, 017-980-6638 [3]. Rack rates from RM50.
• Minora Lodge is a 20min walk from the night market. Clean, variety of rooms from dorm to doubles with air-con, RM20-60.
• Safar Inn, Jalan Hilir Kota
60 9-747-8000. Rates from RM78.

From the airport, train station and city you can take a taxi to Kuala Besut or Tok Bali for ferry connections to the Perhentian Islands (45-60 min; theoretically only RM25 but good luck paying much less than RM50). If you want to stick to public transport, there is now a direct bus service to Kuala Besut.
