Hi guys,
i will be arriving at kuala lumpur international airport(Malaysian Airlines) at 12.30 am and my next flight from the same terminal will leave at 10am.this should leave me with about 7 free hours(after deducting 30min for immigration procedures and 2 hours before the flight for boarding procedures). I would like to use those 7 hours to go to the city and check out a few sights, have a meal etc...
my questions are:
Is there a public transport to the city from the airport 24 hours or will i need to hire a taxi at night? If taxi is necessary, how much would it cost each way?
How much time should i allocate for travel to the city and back?
Is there an active nightlife in the city centre, or it is pretty dead?
Besides petrona's towers, what other sights within walking distance would you recommend?
Thanks.
alex.

Hi there,
Don't know the airport myself, but here's info from the airport site itself:
http://www.klia.com.my/index.php?m=airport&c=getting_around&id=3&aid=1
Buses: Travel time 1 hour
Last bus into KL Sentral 12:30 am
Round trip RM18.00 One way RM10.00
Rail: Every trip from KLIA to KL Sentral, and vice versa, takes approximately 28 minutes of journey time.
Last train into KL Sentral 01:00 am
Round trip RM70.00 One way RM35.00
First train from KL Sentral 05:00 am
Taxi: refer to website, no info on fares
Other things at the airport:
•Reflexology & Massage Centre - Location: Lot SATP B1, Passenger Level, Satellite Building, KLIA (leading to gates C1-C5, next to smoking room). Hours: 7am - 12am. Rates: vary according to service.
•Showers - Showers are available at the Airside Transit Hotel. Rate: RM 20.00 per person includes towel, soap and shampoo. Free cold water showers are available on the 4th floor, past the eateries.
Spa - The Sama Sama Hotel has a day spa package for 60 ringgits (about $20US or €15). "It includes use of the outdoor pool, sauna, spa pools, fitness centre, lockers, showers and Free WiFi. You'll also get a stack of fluffy white towels and a pack of flashy toiletries - backpacker bliss."
•Gym - A gym is available at the Airside Transit Hotel. Rate: RM 30.00 per person includes towel, soap and shampoo
If you decide not to try to go into the city, there is also the option of the lounges. Malasia airlines has one for business class customers.
There is also one available for all at a price:

Depending on where you've flown from and how far you're going perhaps you could enjoy the waiting time and schedule the visit to the city on your return trip.
Hope this helps you consider your options.

With those hours, its really not realistic to go into the city. Its not a 24hr place. Theres not going to be too much open and its one place I wouldnt like to wander round at that hour.
You wont make the last available transport and that only leaves taxis. RM82+ into the city.
I agree with above.Even if you get into the city around 2am..there is not a huge amount to see and do at that time. Some areas will still have bars and restaurants open (Brickfields for example, near Central Station)but it is hardly worth the trip in and out (your trip in will almost certainly be by taxi).
If you have the budget and just want to see the Petronas Towers from outside,of course you can get there by taxi...why not?

Just curious: don't you want to take a rest and sleep in a hotel? Usually the night is meant for that. There is not much to do in KL after 1am.
i very much like kuala lumpur. but its not really a nightlife city, and i would probably also prefer to rest and sleep as suggested above. on the other hand: you might get the last express train into sentral that leaves from klia at 1am (and if you miss it, you could still take a cab). as i'm not really a nightlife person myself, i'm not sure how much (if anything) will be open at this time of the night however. the petronas towers are pretty spectacular at night, and kl is always a great place for a meal, and also a great place for a massage. but again, i dont know how much of that will be possible after 1am.
