Hi there,

We're looking to travel round Langkawi and Penang from mid to the end of October. Some travel agents / tourist sites are trying to say it only ever rains for a couple of hours here and there and it's nothing to worry about, but I'm wondering if that's a but too positive a spin?! Don't mind the odd downpour but it's a long way to go with 2 kids if we are stuck
In the middle of monsoon...

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Not only is the positive news you've been told correct, but you have the free bonuses of the weather feeling cooler after it's rained and cheaper accommodation because it's low season. A great time to travel IMHO.

Hi, me and a few friends are thinking of heading to Langkawi at the beginning of October - 1st until the 7th.
Will it be just a matter of a few hours of rain a day then, or will it still be monsoon in full swing? I've been on a few websites and a few forums and people seem to say different things!
We just need to get away from China for a few days and spending it at the beach - even if it rains for a while everyday - is what we're looking for.

It's unusual for it to rain all day, normally only a brief time each day, frequently thunderstorms. It's not like the monsoon on the East coast, which can go for days and days causing flooding.

The monsoon season for Langkawi will be over by Oct, as it is affected by the SW monsoon (May-Sept), not the NE one.
