The LP guide has got meager pickings in my opinion for budget lodging in Kuching. Any cool places you care to share?

Have a look at the Kuching Guide 2007, there are many options there:

I stayed at the place ppl refer to as the Church, close to the seek temple and the river and promenade, this was December and January last/this year...........not bad for budget accommodation was sharing with my brother paying 20rm p/n for the room. Stayed at the Fata hotel too a few weeks later, would rate around a 3 star hotel IMO, paid 60rm p/n double room sharing with my missus, rooms have tv/ensuite air con etc, i thought very reasonable for the price, would reccomend any time if willing to pay that little bit more. The dorms at the church are very basic but obviously cheaper than a double, remember there being a few places where mozzies could get in so be warned if you try.

Budget accommodation in Kuching isn't that great. IMHO it's the place to splurge a little. I looked at the Fatah hotel and didn't think too much of the rooms I was shown. You can book your accommodation through a local travel agent and get some pretty good discounts. You can walk into a travel agent in Kuching, make your booking (you'll probably get 1/3 off the walk-up price), then head straight over to your new accommodation with your voucher in hand.

No need to book in advance. u have a much better deal walking in and Kuching has lots of accomodations ranging from RM20 (budget) to RM50 (1-2star),
