Hi

I am planning on ending of a holiday by spending 3 nights in Kuala Lumpur (KL), 2 in Penang and 3 in Singapore. I am a female travelling by myself and am hoping to spend under $50 for accomodation per night, (up to $70 if it is worth it). Does anyone have any advice on whether it is best to stay in a hotel or hostel? I just want somewhere safe and central to rest my head.

In Kuala Lumpur I have been looking at the numbereight guest house (private room) or in terms of hotels the Swiss Garden Hotel. Anyone stayed there? Or does anyone have any recommendations (I am wanting to stay in the Golden Triangle so it is close to attractions etc).

In Penang I am hoping to stay in Georgetown - I have heard that the hostels can be on dark lanes which are not very safe. Any suggestions on a cheap hotel, good hostel?

In Singapore I just want somewhere cheap, safe and central.

Also, if the accomodation does not offer laundry, where can you go to get that done? Again not keen to be going down any dark lanes to get it done.

Any help/advice would be great.

Thanks

Regarding Swiss Inn, stayed there in May 07, clean, easy to get to and from and great location, nice breakfast, quiet considering where it is and as it was just me (Mum and Son) safe! Laundry very reasonably priced at swiss In. We were on our way home form China, had a three night stop over and plenty of washing! Was sick of washing in rooms by then and found it cheap enough!

Stayed at Hotel Continental in Penang May of last year, clean, good breakfast, good location, efficient staff.

I was backpacking alone and stayed at the Hotel Mingood in Georgetown.
Large, basic, clean, aircon ensuite rooms; helpful and knowledgable staff; free basic breakfast (pay a bit more for cooked), free wifi in rooms (or pay internet in the lobby), and you can have your laundry done and returned the next day.

I paid RM70 per night but I think they charge more at weekends.

Singapore is pretty much more expensive than Malaysian.

In Singapore you can check out Bugis Backpackers Hostel as it is is a most central location (right above the Bugis MRT Station at Bugis Village, and a short walk away to Little India in one direction, and the Kampong Glam / Arab Street area in the other, and also quite close to the Raffles Hotel area (if you want to taste a Singapore Sling.

Enjoy your trip

LAundry?Just walk in to any laundry by the roadside and they charge something like RM 2.50 per kg.
