Hi jaguarpaw, i just did the climb last week. Booking everything is the hard part, the climb is more straightforward !

There's so many ways to book it is confusing. I booked bed, meals and insurance through sutera lodges office about 2 weeks before. I did see cheap, last-minute deals b4 i left though around KK e.g. 'Rustic Borneo.' I then had to pay transport, guide and park fee. About 800Rm in total.

My guide said the best way was to turn up at park hq and to ask one of the guides. Perhaps you might end up climbing the next day but that's ok as it's a nice place to hang out. This option would be less than 500 he reckoned.

Anyone charging over 1000 is screwing you big time.

Ps only share a guide with folks you know i.e. u don't want to be waiting for a couch potato all day!!

PPS i think 1 day climbing has been stopped, greed or safety i'm not sure?

If stopped, it must be for greed.
As 1-day climbers were also accompanied by guides, and the trail is well-marked, safety can't really have been an issue.

Hi roundhay,

Thanks for sharing your experience! I did some "mountain climbing" in La Paz, but there you can show up and leave the next day (weather permitting) . Same thing in Chile : I guess South Amercia is easier that way :)

Actually the 800 you got quoted seems reasonable enough. I will contact the sutera lodges shortly then... Read some prices which were much steeper...
