Hi all,

I am fully qualified teacher in Australia and we are considering relocating to Malaysia for a business opportunity.

While we establish the business is anyone out there aware of whether or not I could be a substitute / day to day teacher like you can be here in Australia (ie Full time teacher gets sick or has to go on a course and needs immediately replacement so the school calls a list of teachers who might be able to replace them?)

Any info about the school and teaching setup for substitute teachers would be hugely appreciated!!

Thanks!

You will almost certainly have to have a work permit to teach in Malaysia and that is not cheap. You won't be able to do it on a tourist visa.
You could try googling the international schools.

See if you can find any recruiters for teaching in Malaysia. But depending where you are in Malaysia, it may be harder to get a job teaching. My son went through University with a lot of Malays who once they got their degrees had to go back to teach in Malaysia for a set period.

I looked into working in Malaysia and, if I recall correctly, there is a minimum wage that would basically preclude foreign teachers working there. There may be a separate scheme for teachers that I didn't find out about, but even so, the rules seemed fairly onerous and intrusive - medical tests and all.

Just remembered my son also looked into Malaysia. If you,d like, I could ask him about it. He's currently teaching in Seth Korea.
