After spending a few days in Singapore, I am planning to spend the last week of October in Malaysia, with a flight home from Kuala Lumpur to finish.

What is the best way to spend a week in Malaysia at that time of year? I am deciding whether to fly to Penang from Singapore for a few days before catching a bus to KL. Or, would going to the Cameron Highlands be better? Or even a trip across the country to the east coast?

Suggestions and advice welcome!

All ideas sound okay but it really depends on what interests you the most and not a bunch of strangers.

The east coast might be a bit rainy at the end of October. Better to stick to the west coast.

agree with westwood, you know what interests you the most.

personally, i would fly to penang, spend a few days and spend a few days in k.l., but thats me :-). go to penang for great food, georgetown (a lovely town with a lot of character, malay / chinese and indian influence), so so beaches, temples, parks / gardens etc.

Georgetown, Penang deserves 3-4 days minimum. KL is just a big Asian City and I don't bother staying there anymore. It lacks soul for me! Georgetown is amazing for fab Indian, Chinese, Malay food, good local transport, cheap accommodation (prices are rising quickly though). The beaches are awful however you could hop a cheap flight on Air Asia up to Langkawi for a couple of days. It has one nice beach! Cameron Highlands is a waste of time. Can be wet, cool and dismal full of local honeymooners and once was more than enough! Base yourself in Georgetown and explore the town from top to bottom. Good luck!

I'll also be in Malaysia for about 5 days. Have been to Penang (twice).

Was thinking Cameron Highlands, but think it may be a bit boring. Dont like beaches.

What is Tamen Negara like? This crowd runs tours

Hi maverick, I'll be in sabah from 9oct onwards. What interest you?
Do you fancy a mountain climbing? Be in touch with wildlife n nature? Chill by the beach? Observe a traditional tribe living in the borneo of Malaysia?

I'll be doing that so if you'd like, we can explore together!
