Going to Mulu from Miri by land/boat?

Has anyone gone to Mulu from Miri by either land or boat? The distance is so close but the flights are very expensive, so I was reading you can get there by 4x4 or boat and takes around 8-10 hours though I don't know if I can find more information about those from Miri (like price or frequency).

I haven't tried but it should be possible via Bintulu.

I read in a S'pore backpackers forum it's more expensive going to Mulu from Miri by boat without a group.
