Hi everyone!
Can someone please tell me how to get there on my own?Which bus to take and from where? Can I see the fireflies and get back to KL on the same day?Or do I have to overnight there? Is end of August a good time? Thanks.

Go to this website (www.anjungkl.com) and speak to someone there regarding trips to Kuala Selangor. They are a bed and breakfast place near Bukit Bintang and they do organise trips to the popular tourist destinations in KL for their guests there. I don't think they will mind having someone who's not staying at their place to join in. No harm asking.

You can get a bus from Pudu Raya bus station. Not sure if you can do it in one day, as the fireflies are generally seen in the evening.
for an evening trip i recommend you take a bus from kl to reach klang bus station by 4 pm. next you take a bus from klang to kuala selangor. about 45 mins. since it is still early, visit the bird sanctuary park and the light house which is walking distance from the bus station or else hop into a taxi. next have a relaxing sea food dinner beside the river. around 8 pm get a taxi to the fire flies park which is only 15 mins away. for return to kl , do the reverse. august is a good time. but warned you .. the weather is unpredictable.

The best time to see fire-flies is next week, 6-10th Aug. The worst period 23-29th Aug. Why? It has something to do with seatide and moonlight. Don't want to bore you with details. I'm a mangrove geek and have done some studies on its ecology - trust me ;-)
Yep, it's best you use the Port Klang way to get back to KL. The Kepong way is dark, narrow and hairy for night travels. You do not have to overnight in Kuala Selangor but you'll need a good taxi driver.
I have been twice to the fire flies at Kuala Selangor in the past year and recommend everyoen to see them before they disapear! I have also been lucky enough to have both visits on a moonless night so then the fire flies are brighter and more spectacular.
First trip(June 06) we went to Bukit Belimbling which they also have accommodation there, which we did stay in, it was comfotable and clean but a bit out of the way, we had hired a car and so were doing our own thing which made it easier. We also visited Bukit Malawati which is where the old fort and feeding of the monkeys is. Worth seeing if you can the monkeys are great, take some fruit.
Second trip (May 07) l took my son and we did a trip through journeys malaysia which l booked over the net before l left Australia, l would not recommend there tours as they have VERY unsafe drivers, although the one for the Fire flies trip was great, the day before we had almost died in a very scarry ride to an elephant park!
They also charged us the adult rate for my son decalring that there were no others on the tour, of which on both days there were and they would not refund the extra payment. Not a huge big deal but off putting!
Anyway, this time we visited Kampong Kuantan and also Bukit Melawati again and fed the amazing monkeys.
I think out of both trips l do prefer Bukit Belimbling but we were very lucky that night as there were not many tourists and the lovely boat guy took us around three times, the Kampong Kuantan seems to have way more tourists or maybe it was just luck of the draw!
Which ever you go to, it is worth it and amazing, my 11 year old son was thrilled, he did not go the first time so it was very special to see them again with him the second time, l would however see them again next trip, but maybe book through my hotel??? or a hotel/guesthouse?? It would be easy, we had a hard time finding them driving on our own!
We stayed at the Swiss Inn and on talking to the guys that run tours there l would've been alot better off with them.
Forgot to mention that if you do a tour, you leave about 3 to 4 ish and arrive back about 10-ish! So does'nt cut into your day!!!!
Thanks to all of you!!
ang40,do you mean there are 2 places where the fireflies can be seen?Bukit Belimbing and Kampong Kuantan/Bukit Melawati?I won't be able to make it 6-10 August, what about September?
Thanks.
Kampong Bukit Belimbling and Kampong Kuantan are the two places to see the Fire Flies. Bukit Melawati is the hill that overlooks the town and you can feed the mankeys and there is also an old dutch fort? up there too. Lovely view of the town and fishing villages.
Best to see the Fire Flies when there is no moon or NOT afull moon. Also not a rainy night, not sure what Septmeber will hold for you, maybe someone else will be able to answer that for you??
