Hi there,
I'am planning a trip to Malaysia in January next year. I want to go to Taman Negara and looking for some nice beaches to dive as well. Different sources of textbook do not recommend to go in January due to monsoon season. I've been to the west coast (Singapur-Melacca-KL-Cameroon Highlands) in January 2 years ago and the weather was fine.
Has anyone been to these places and can spare his experience?
Alternatively, Iam thinking about going Borneo, Kota Kinabalu & NP, but I guess there wont be much difference in the weather to peninsula malaysia.

Any help is deeply appreciated!!

East coast has its monsoon in Jan so there will definitely be no diving, in fact most of the islands are closed. And I'm pretty sure that Sabah will also have monsoon then.

Part of the Sabah off-shore islands are affected by the moonsoon, but not Sipadan Island. So you may consider travel to Mabul Island & dive/snorkel at Sipadan island.

Last january and fabruary I have been to Malaysia. We have, among other places, been to Taman Negara and Kuching and Bako National Park.
In the Taman Negara we had no rain at all.
In Kuching and Bako we had quite some rain, but nevertheless we had a great time and it didn't rain all the time. We have spend 10 days in bako and did many trails without problems. Then again, we where lucky as on other moments it was raining like hell.
I guess it's pretty unpredictable. It's still monsoon season so yes, it can rain like craze.
The good thing is that it's not too touristy and like I said, it doesn't rain all the time. There are some heavy showers and enough dry periods in between. Anyway, that's how it was for us.
