Hello,

I will be taking a part business, part leisure trip at the beginning of September with 2 others. We will be staying in Kota Kinabalu Thurs Sep 3 and Fri Sep 4, but want to travel to Sandakan on Sat Sep 5 and stay there. We want to rent a car ONLY to drive from KK> Sandakan (we will all be flying out of Sandakan airport after our trip). I have checked with Borneo Car Rental and its about 900 RM to rent a car with them and return it in a different location (400 RM extra). I was wondering if anyone knew of any other car rental companies or a personal/reliable driver that would want to drive from KK to Sandakan on Saturday Sep 5 that would be cheaper than 900 RM.

Thank you in advance!

Last year I rented a car in West Malaysia for 8 days and paid RM 1200 (of which the Malaysian car rental got only 960, should have rented the car directly with them):

So it looks like Borneo Car Rental are ripping you off...

Why don't you take a bus from KK to Sandakan?

As above. ..bus is easy and cheap, if not exactly fast...

There are also some very cheap flights between those 2 cities...sometimes you can get a Maswings flight for not much more than the bus. ..

Thanks for the info!!! @alfredm, I will check out the site you sent over. We want to drive for the sole sake of stopping at Mt. Kinabalu for a little bit-- does the bus drop off there? If so, could we get off our original bus, check out Mt. Kinabalu, and then hop on a later bus to Sandakan?
