I will need to travel to Hat Yai from Alor star Airport next month. I am flying into AStar airport by Air Asia. I've looked at the Air Asia website and I am still unsure whether there is a connecting bus to Hat Yai.
The website talks about "Minimum 3 days advance booking required (minimum 4 guests)".
Could anyone confirm if this bus service is pretty much routine, with no prior booking required?

I don't really understand your posting.
Are you saying AirAsia has a bus from AS to HY? I can't imagine this unless it's a new service.
I don't understand what you write about booking.
Why don't you just go to Alor Star bus station and take a rgular bus to Hat Yai.

Roaming asia, if you go to Air Asia website, then click on "flight info", then "ground arrangements", then "Alor Star- Hat Yai", you'll see what I mean.
I will contact the e-mail address given on the page and hopefully, I might get a reply to my question.
I would not mind getting into Alor Star town, by taxi I suppose, then catch the next bus to Hat Yai, after a wait at the station of ??? minutes. BUT this would not be very clever nor the most efficient way of travel IF there is a bus service from the airport to Hat Yai (which may be run by AirAsia or some other company).
It's clear there is no such service according to you, but mybe just maybe if someone has used this bus service, I would like to hear from him or her.
From what I can understand, the bus service is not routine, but will only be available when pre-booked from the handling agency with a minimum of RM100.00 (4 guests x RM 25.00). They will normally provide a van (I assume it would be a six or eight-seater) and a bus if there are more travellers going to Hat Yai.

A little late for a reply, but as I had the same question this week: the bus service is not routine, bu they offered me to arrange a taxi at a good price (120RM), directly and non-stop from hat yai to alor star. should also work the other way, i suppose.

It would be much cheaper to go to Alor Star bus station and then take a bus to Hat Yai. Although I dont know how frequent buses are from AS to HY.
What abt vice versa ? From Hat Yai to Alor Setar? Are there enough buses during the day ? What would be approx. fare and how long does it take?
I could not find any info on this anywhere.

Welcome to TT.
I guess you must have used the search function - which digs up 2007 threads.
If you're crossing into Malaysia overland, there're plenty of local buses from Hatyai to the border - either Padang or Sadao. And from there, another bus to Alor Setar. About 2.5 hours. It should be about or less than RM20 or 200baht.
