Hi all

Just wondered if anyone has any recommendations for a budget hotel in Ipoh and in the Cameron Highlands - preferably with a bit of atmosphere and solid walls!

Many thanks

James

The Majestic Station Hotel in Ipoh is an absolute must.

Thanks #2, I'll check it out.

#1 not thin, wooden board walls, through which sounds travels easily.

Cameron Highlands. Try Father's Guest House if you are young (ie. under 25) or Cameronian Inn if you are over 25.

Try Ipoh YMCA, RM40ish room with ceiling fan. You can't book ahead and they have no website. 15 mins walk to town center. For thicker walls, you can look up www.fairparkhotel.com.my, RM70ish air con room, town center.

I heard nothing but good things about Fathers, both under and over 25s.
I stayed at Daniel's Lodge, a great little spot for a lazy day out the front and a cool, but quiet, bar out the back complete with part-time resident Canadian guitarist and small outdoor fire. The OP did say "hotel" though, and Daniel's isn't that, though if memory serves there are rooms with their own bathroom - I'm also not sure of the soundproofing of those rooms.

Another suggestion in Cameron Highlands is Bala's Inn or something like that. A 15 minute walk outside Tana Rata. Different size rooms in a garden setting with fireplace and strawberries with cream.
Oh, just saw this. Seems nice but has it's problems and has definitely left the low budget segment.
