Hi everyone.

I'm off to Brunei for work mid july and I'm thinking of staying in the region for a few days (5 max). I'm keen to get to a quiet, chilled beach somewhere not too far from Brunei. Should I go to somewhere in Sabah, or stick to Brunei?

I really don't want to do too much travelling. Just a nice spot on a beach. I'll be flying from Brunei, so I'd have to make it back too.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Billy.

Catch the ferry from Serasa to Labuan, and then another ferry to Kota Kinabalu.

Or take the bus from BSB to Seria/Kuala Belait, and then a bus to Miri.

There is one beach in Miri. Good so so one.

I think the road trip to Miri can be done in 4 hours or so from BSB. Give it about 5 with immi procedures. Half a day at the most each way.

There is this beautiful place called TEMPURUNG SEASIDE LODGE with a private beach in the South West of Sabah near Labuan. Try it out. You can contact Borneo Authentic Adventure Sdn. Bhd. They run this place.

Miri's beaches not the tropical white sandy of your dreams ...nor are others in/close to Brunei. Most are brown sand, hot, little shade (no beautiful coconut palms) covered in plastic rubbish swept up from the ocean, out from the water villages along the rivers.
Best bet would be Kuramin Island off Labuan .... uninhabited......otherwise north end of Labuan itself.

Empire Hotel in Brunei has an acceptable beach - cos private, man-made and cleaned regularly. $300 per night, but real luxury and amazingly built hotel (marble and gold leaf).

Fly to KK stay at Rasa Ria resort if you have the cash ($500 MYR) - lovely spot 1/2 hr north of KK has its own conservation area in the jungle on the hill next to it and a huge white sandy beach.
