I am planning to fly Air Asia from Johore Bahru to Macau in Nov or Dec 2007.
The flight leaves at about 7am and I thought it might be a good idea to stay in Johire Bahru rather than in Singapore.
Are there any backpackers hostels or guesthouses in Johore Bahru?

There is only one that I'm aware of. It's called the Footloose Homestay and is near the City Bus Station in the downtown area. 4h Jl Ismail (tel 07/224 2881; a basic dorm (RM15) with one private room. It's just over the hill from the City Bus Terminal (walk back where the buses come in), down the hill, an opposite some Catholic schools.
Here's another spot that is a little more mid-range
Zen Zheng Hotel
If you can't get a bed here, try the grim but reasonably clean Hawaii, 21 Jl Meldrum (tel 07/224 0633; $40–50). In the mid-range the Rasa Sayang, Jalan Datok Dalam (tel 07/224 8600; $60–80)
