Hello everyone!
I always thought that the earlier we bought tickets on AirAsia the cheaper it was...but I was looking for a random flight and I saw that the ticket was more expensive next year than it is in a couple of weeks!!Can anyone tell me when is it better to buy tickets on Airasia please? On elong.net,the cheapest tickets are to be found roughly 10 days to a week before departure....is it a couple of months on Airasia?
Thanks!!

Airasia is having a Mega Sale in 1-2 days time. You could join their BIG Loyalty program.

It's impossible to predict, I think! Ticket prices these days are determined by complex algorithms. If you want to book far in advance, the tickets are more pricey, because they figure you have concrete plans if you're booking that far ahead, and are willing to pay more. As the actual date nears, prices will go down, but only if not too many of them have been sold. The price of a flight will depend on how many people have already bought seats for it. So each flight will be different, and the season, the time of the flight, and so on will all affect this. The cheapest ticket for each flight will not be the same.

On top of all that, Air Asia also has some other weird things in their pricing; for example, whenever anyone buys a ticket for a certain flight, the price of that flight suddenly jumps temporarily, for at least a half hour or so.

So don't book a year in advance, but don't expect to easily get the absolute lowest price.

And you could also look into Hong Kong - Kuala Lumpur flights as well obviously. I did that earlier this year, booked some 6-8 weeks in advance, and didn't pay too much.

Air Asia pricing is a mystery that would be great to solve! I fly them quite frequently and of course try to get a good price...I sort of set a baseline for what I want price wise and then periodically check in to see what price fluctuations are like. My flights are usually something like DPS DMK or DPS SIN and I know what I consider ok...then if the price hits that I book it. I time it with visa runs though so can't be that flexible on dates..

If you do hit the sales and score it's great, but if you are booking a flight to somewhere that is not on sale I find the other fares are much higher..

Thanks everyone for your great answers!!It is a mystery indeed!!I remember once buying a ticket because I thought it wouldn't go down any further but it did for a couple of days before going up again!!I was quite mad then!!

As a rule of thumb, flights are cheapest on Tuesday and Wednesday, early morning or late at night and approximately 3 weeks before departure for international flights but a couple of months for domestic flights. Pure statistics with no guarantees.

It often is cheaper to book a few months in advance, however if they have unsold seats near the time you can get some bargains, it a matter of luck. Yes booking mid week often cheapest. It's supply and demand. You could also look at Jetstar they have some really good deals sometimes.

On some routes the prices don't change much at all (presumably this is the unpopular routes). But if you can book when there's a big sale you can get some great prices. My favourite was the $AUD15 fare I got from KL to Phnom Penh.
