My husband and I are travelling to KL on business but will have 3-4 days to explore afterwards. Given the short timeframe, anyone have any suggestions? I was looking at Langkawi but would really like to do some trekking if possible. Is there anything on Langkawi, or is there somewhere close to KL that is interesting? We are also interested in snorkeling or maybe diving, is Langkawi a good choice for that? Our govt has a travel advisory out for Sabah so won't go there.

Thanks for the help!

Royal Belum state park: http://www.molon.de/galleries/Malaysia/WestCoast/Belum/
Go there with a package; limited trekking possible

Taman Negara: http://www.molon.de/galleries/Malaysia/WestCoast/Taman_Negara/
Longer treks available

Mulu NP: http://www.molon.de/galleries/Malaysia/Sarawak/Mulu/
Accessible with two flights from KL (KL-Miri + Miri-Mulu): beautiful treks available, great views, jungle etc.

hi Alfredo thanks for your suggestions, I am just wondering if Mulu is feasible with only 3-4 days? I checked out Teman Negara and the LP suggested lodging wasn't available- is it posible to do as a day trip from KL, or somewhere else? Am still researching Royal Belum.

We are also considering Pulau Langkawi, any thoughts about there? They do say in LP that there is some trekking..

Thanks

Regarding Mulu: you can take an evening flight from KL to Miri (for instance after your meetings), then the next day take the 9:20am MASWings flight to Mulu. This would give you a full day in Mulu NP. If you want to do the pinnacles trek (a bit tough) you'd spend the first day in Mulu visiting the caves, then catch the boat the next day. Alternatively arrange to be picked up by boat on the first day and be transferred to the trail for Camp 5. Then going up and down the Pinnacles is usually done in two days.
If you don't want to do the Pinnacles, you can spend the time visiting the caves and doing some simple treks. Check my travelogue at http://www.molon.de/travelogues/Malaysia/2010/

I believe Langkawi has a simple trek above the Telaga Tujuh waterfalls: http://www.molon.de/galleries/Malaysia/WestCoast/Langkawi/Waterfall/

Forgot to mention, with 3-4 days it's even possible to climb Mt Kinabalu in Sabah: http://www.molon.de/galleries/Malaysia/Sabah/Kinabalu/

Langkawi is a great spot and there are regular flights from KL. There are some really nice bays for snorkelling. There are also some relatively easy hikes on Langkawi.
Re snorkelling- whenever we have been on Langkawi the water has been a little turbid.
