Hi All

Sorry to post another itinerary query - but i have just booked flights to Malaysia for a 14 day holiday in February, and now in a bit of flap about the itinerary with it being only a month away!!

I would greatly appreciate any comments on my itinerary. Nothing is completely set in stone, but my boyfriend and I are looking to get over to Borneo to see Orangutans, but also have a bit of time of the beach without rushing around. I was thinking:

Fly into KL spent 2 nights
Fly to Penang spend 3 days 2nights
Fly to Langkawi spend 4 days 3 nights
somehow get to Sandakan (any advice would be recommended) and stay for 3 days 2 nights go to orangutan sancutary and do river tour
then back to KL

This comes to 12 days so I have 2 extra days to either go somewhere else or add on to a current destination. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Hannah

I'm not sure what you'll do for 4 days on langkawi.. you might want to chop that to 2 days.
Consider spending some time in Terengganu, also at least a day in Malacca (a few hours from KL)
Happy travels!

Also may be more convinient to take a ferry between Penang and Langkawi, only takes 3 hours.

i wouldnt add a new destination, but the two extra days to destinations you have already selected. i like kuala lumpur and penang, and would add day in kl or penang (depending on what you are looking for, your interests, and also when your flight arrives into kl etc.). and the other day in borneo. you can fly from kl to sandakan with air asia or malaysian airlines.

Hi hannah030991,

I agree with battambang, you may want to shorten your visit to Langkawi and use the extra days to explore more of Sabah area since you're already going to Sandakan. KL, Penang, Langkawi are at Asia Peninsula side and Sandakan is at Borneo side, so you need to fly from Peninsula side to Borneo side. And since you're already spending resources to get to the Borneo side, why not enjoy more of the Sabah area.

Cheers,
Rian

Thanks for all your comments, much appreciated.

I think we will take on board battambang's comments and take a ferry to langkawi.

After doing the Orangutan sanctuary and the river tour, what else would you suggest in the Sabah area? Also, is a day trip to malacca worthwhile or would it be better to try and squeeze in a stay over?

Thanks again for your advice.

Hi hannah030991,

How about a bike tour at Lahad Datu? Trekking around Mt. Kinabalu National Park? Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary, Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, Borneo cultural tour, The Green Connection conservation centre, Labuan water village?

I thought that a day trip to Malacca was enough, but my friend told me that the place comes alive at night, so it's worth staying over. I'm still not convinced. But it's your choice.

Cheers,
Rian
