Bit harsh on Malaysia Air.

They lost my luggage in April. Sent it to BKK instead of REP. Faced with unwashed clothes for........ I bought about $150USD worth of necessities. (The MAS agent in Siem Reap having literally offered me either a tooth brush or a T shirt). Anyway, my luggage was recovered and sent via Bangkok Air to Siem Reap - arriving 36 or so hours after me; but intact.

I waited until I got back to Australia - then claimed the full amount for purchases of clothing etc I needed from Malaysian Air's Brisbane branch. They paid up - in full - cheerfully and quickly.

Moral I guess is - make claims when you are back in your home country (assuming it has reasonable consumer protection legislation!).

The ticket would have to be valid for within the 3 months from your first arrival
