This is a Surabaya-Bromo-Ijen itinerary I am thinking of for my trip to Indonesia in August. It's similar to the itineraries offered by most of local travel agents but in my case I would like to rest an additional day at Bromo because I am not in a rush. The problem is travel agents tend to make you pay the guide and driver for the additional day you choose to remain at Bromo doing nothing if not resting or walking around which means the final quote you get is quite high. How reliable and…

Hello people!

I have few questions regarding my trip to Indonesia. I will be there at 28th of July for about 3 to 4 weeks.

What to see near Jakarta? I will be there waiting for Indian visa, so I will have about 10 days to travel around the capital.
What to see in Bali except of known tourist places?
How to get to Paupa from Indonesia? I'm interested in the cheapest possible way. I'd like to explore remotes areas, tribal areas, go for a jungle trekk etc. What are the costs of such things?

I'm…

Hello fellow travelers,
I am in the early stages of planning a trip to Indonesia for next summer (most likely in July because of my teaching schedule). I'm thinking of doing an organized tour for the first 10 to 14 days and then exploring on m own for about 2 weeks. As I start to plan, I'm getting overwhelmed so I'm reaching out to you all for suggestions and sage advice:
1. What tour company/companies would you recommend for a tour? I'm not looking for anything too extravagant, and I don't…

Hi everyone!

Me and my friend, both from Barcelona in Spain, will travel to Java and Bali from 19th to 31st August. While we know which cities we are gonna visit and around how many days each, we would like to get some tips on what and when to visit in each part of the country. We are specially interested in nature, getting to know local culture and not so tourists spots (although of course some typical places, such as the temples in Yogya, are a must). This is what we have sorted out so far:

Hi,

I'm planning my first trip to Indonesia and my general itinerary for 3 weeks is:
Bali - stay& visit places around Tirta Gangga- travel to Padang Bai (stay & visit temples)- visit Lombok- trek Mt.Rinjani- Flores (trek Mt. Kelimutu).

I read a lot about crime in Indonesia - is the region I just described relatively safe? Anything you would recommend as far as those places are concerned?

thanks

I just wanted to share my experience getting this extension. I got the usual 30-day visa-on-arrival at Medan's Kualanamu International Airport when I arrived. It cost $35 US. You must have cash on hand to pay for this visa at the airport, since there are no ATMs available, and they don't accept credit cards or anything like that. You CAN pay in other currencies but with a penalty. If you pay in Indonesian rupiah, they will charge 600,000 rupiah, which is about $42 US. I met another foreigner on…

Hi,

I am looking to travel to Kutai National Park tour to see the Orangutans in mid August 2018 after arriving in Balikpapan. I was wondering if anyone could advise how easy it is to get to the national park from Balikpapan and how easy it is to find a guide when you get there or whether it is better to book in advance. I have seen other posts relating to this but they all seem a few years old now!

If anyone has the contact details of a local guide that would also be great.

Lombok.

Hi we’re travelling in July and August, anyone know Which area is good to see dolphins in Lombok (we’re staying in Kuta), also we’re hoping to snorkel in Gili nanngu (hoping it’ll be less touristy than the other gillis), does anyone know how likely it is to see the large manta rays and turtles there? (Our 2 very excited children want to see as much wildlife as possible)!
Thank you

I am planning a journey from Yogya to Mount Bromo first and then Ijen crater and from there to Surabaya where I have to catch a flight to Sulawesi. I should leave August 3rd from Yogya and be in Surabaya on the 7th evening, so there's plenty of time to explore the volcanoes area. LP suggests to avoid crowded minibuses and book train instead to cover the Yogya-Probolingo journey plus a minivan ride from there to Bromo. How can you book a train ticket considering the local railways website is all…
