from Bali to Jakarta. I want to buy some large wooden carved items here but they weigh much. I have asaked several travel aencies what th baggage weight limitation is and get completely different answers ( eg 20kg including carryon, 30 kg not including carry on but carry on must be less than 2 kg, etc) and as for excess weight I was quoted $25 US per kg which sounds xcessive. Does anyone have any experience with this and can you recommend a airline with direct flights.

It may sound weird but nowadays foreign tourists/expats can go hiking/jungle trekking with guides recruted from the former Free Aceh Movement. The treks go sometimes to places where former GAm used to hide.

I have done one trek with a Dutch journalist and three ex GAM in Lhoong area along the westcoast and I can recommend it. Its awesome and quite affordable.

I'm flying to Jakarta to spend 2 weeks in Indonesia with my family. We have a wedding to attend in Bandar Lampung towards the end of our 2 weeks. Any advice on what things to do and see in just two weeks? (I know it's not very long and travel can take a lot of time in Indo!)
Should we concentrate on Sumatera (Bukittinggi, Minanjua, etc) or instead concentrate on the west of Java? We don't mind taking an internal flight or two to save time.
Also - is Padang still a no go zone? I heard it…

Can someone please advise me on the fastest overland route (bus or train and approx. time) from Bali to Yogyakarta in Central Java. Has anyone made this journey? Thanks a ton.

Im going to indonesia soon through HK and am trying to find information on approx. prices of flights from HK to Indonesia. I am in Europe at the moment and will be travelling to HK.

Another question!! Trains in JAVA, there seems to be alot of lines but does it make for a nice experience and not too chaotic? Are the services reliable.

Finally, I made the mistake of looking the embassy reports on Indonesia and almost freaked...I knew they were cautious but the language they use seemed to indicate…

I'm plannning to head up from Bandar Lampung to Padang/Bukkitingi in a few days. It's a long trip and I'm a fidgety sort so was wondering if anyone could suggest a place on/near the Trans Sumatran highway to break up the trip for a day, rather than front up to 24 hrs plus on a bus. My visa is running down and I'm not keen on flying so I know my options are a bit limited.
