Well we're Aussies who've just been to Phuket in Thailand with the kids and loved it. Now we're looking for somewhere in Indonesia (correct me if I"m wrong and there's a better place to visit!) to take the kids. Any ideas? We'd like to stay at the same place for a month, typically we rent a 2-3 b/room self-contained apartment for $1500 US/month but maybe we should just eat out if it's cheap and forget the kitchen?. I like shopping, the hubby likes to relax so I'm not sure whether to go for the city or the beach, we don't want to have to pack up and move during the month. So, has anyone got any ideas of which city/beach location or which hotel/resort? Maybe a place in the city where the pool is nice to relax at etc. Thanks heaps.
My best advice is only Bali. There may be other places. Your equivalent US dollar is equal to around $67AUD per night for 2/3 bedroom unit. I can only say good luck.
I can give you a contact number for a very nice two storey place bordering on Seminyak/Legian, and you may be able to negotiate, but it would be a stretch. I have no interest in the property, it's owned by a Dutch couple.
As the rate in the dollar is better for Indonesia than Thailand, you should perhaps rethink your maximum amount.
check out this web site, www.kharistavillas.com. you could probably get their best rate for long term stay. it is not far from the beach, has your own private pool to relax the whole day, and it is not very far to go to Kuta for shopping trip. as for shopping itself, depends on what would you like to get, Bali could offers you a lot of shopping to do. you could always organize a plan and easily rent a car for shopping or sightseeing whenever you need.

You could stay at the Jayakarta Hotel and Residence. They have self contained two bedroom flats in the Residence portion of the hotel. The hotel is a very large place on the beach with swimming pools shuttle buses etc. Try www.puketoki.com.<BR><BR>I stayed in one of the one bedroom flats last December.
