Hi, I will reach West Papua from Europe and I don't need a Visa for less that 30 days. But I'd like to stay there for 35 days and I will need a Visa. Do you know if I can get the Visa in Jayapura or do I need to take it in Jakarta or in my country? I know it costs US$35 in Indonesia and around 100 euro in my country. As I will wait the connection for the flight from jakarta to Jayapura, can I get that Visa in short time without leaving the customs. Thanks for some precise info.

You will need to get the visa in Jakarta (at the latest). You enter the country there, so you will not be able to board a domestic flight without a visa (or visa-free stamp). The visa-on-arrival is indeed USD 35 (for 30 days), and you can extend this once in an immigration office (also in Jayapura this is possible).

Are you sure the visa is so expensive in Italy? At the Indonesian embassy in the Netherlands the price is only € 50. As a pre-arranged visa is valid for 60 days, this is easier than a visa-on-arrival that you will need to extend (if you live near the embassy at least).

If you visit Papua (areas outside the main cities), in addition to a visa you will also need a surat jalan. You can get this in Jayapura usually.

Thanks for your precious news. In Italy I have to spend more money because I have to pay also the Passport transport by courier. I don't live where there is the Indonesian Consulate. Then ... I don't need of any Visa if I will be there for 30 days only. Italian people can can access to Indonesia without Visa but for not more than 30 days and for tourism. My trip will be for 35 days and I will need a Visa. But I hope it will be easy to get it and in short time. Do you know some news?

Many countries can now get a visa waver for 30 days (including the first and last days). When you arrive don't follow everyone else in a rush to the immigration counter. There should be a separate counter where you can buy a VOA for $35 (dearer for other currencies). - it will be processed at the immigration counter. (Based on my experiences in Medan.)

Paul, I wrote to Italian Embassy in Indonesia and they replied me 2 hours ago. They wrote I have to pay US $ 30 upon my arrival in Jakarta and subsequently to go to an Indonesian immigration office in the country and request a second one with a fee (not free). It is hard to get a Visa for me. It is easier get a Visa in my country. ;)

adriano -- I agree with what you were told. My post was about what to do when you arrive if you want a VOA -- that to expect the selling of the visas to be in the same hall as the immigration desks but at a different desk and to make sure you buy the visa before you go to the actual immigration desks for processing. There will be signs telling you all this but most people just rush past them.

As I'd like to buy a separate ticket 1 from Europe to Jakarta and the other one from Jakarta to Jayapura, I'd like to knoe if the flight from Jakarta to Jayapura is in the same international Jakarta Airport.
Thanks
