Hi Folks,
I recently returned from my second visit on Sumatra and it was fabulous again. My parents are quite some travelers themselves and when they heard about my experiences they now want to go as well. As they are a bit older already and they speak only very limited english I am now looking for a reliable german speaking guide for the following itinerary:
Medan - Lake Toba - Bukittlawang - Medan for round about 10 days in January 2008.
Do you have any recommendations, know anybody?
Thanks

There is guide in Bukit Lawang called Smiley who speaks beautiful German. He lived in Austria for a few years and went to school there to learn German.
I first met him in Jan 2005 and caught up with him again in late Sept 2006. He is a smart young man very intelligent, fun personality and loves speaking German.
As far as I know he does not have a mobile, and probably not an email address because there is no internet in Bukit Lawang.
But if you are interested to make contact with him, email me at pamelajoyfuge@hotmail.com and I will try to get a contact mobile no. for you. I know many people in Bukit Lawang who would be able to get a message to him.
Here is a Photo of Smiley taken in Sept 2006.
Pamela.

@ Pamela
Hi there, I met Smiley in Bukit round about 8 weeks ago. Yeah, nice geezer. I try to get in contact with him via Mr Bahrumsyah Rangkuti, the chairman of Bukittlawang Eco Tourism Network. Let's see if he's got some contact poss.
Thanks again everyone

Nic66,
I really do not know which guesthouse he is attached to-maybe Bukit Lawang Cottages or Bukit Lawang Indah. But everyone knows Smiley-he is quite a character.
I was introduced to him through other people I had met in Bukit Lawang in 2005 and then he was around when I was there last year for a few weeks.
Previously he had lived overseas.
If anyone wants to contact him he is contactable through Genta's ( he used to run Rock Inn) mobile phone.
Genta's number is +6281376493945
Hopefully in the next few weeks he will have his own mobile phone and number and I will post it on here.
Pamela.
