wondering if anyone can advise me on the following: i'm taking a Japan Airlines flight to Jakarta that lands at 4:50pm on 9/2. i really don't want to spend the night in Jakarta, but would prefer to immediately catch a flight to Yogya. both Garuda and Lion Air have flights to Yogya that leave at 7:15pm.
question: is 2 hours and 25 minutes enough time to make that flight? i'll have to go through passport control and pay for my ticket at the airline counter since it seems that both Gaurda and Wing don't take online payment. but i won't have to claim baggage since i've only got carry-on. of course, there might be something else that will slow me down.
i spoke to a clerk at Lion Air who thought i wouldn't have enough time. but he also hadn't considered the question before, and i wonder if he was being excessively cautious.
or do you agree that it would be smarter to spend the night in Jakarta and fly to Yogya the next morning?

I find a quick overnight in Jakarta tiring and a hassle, so I'd suggest you try to make the 7:15 flight; I think your JAL flight being late is more a concern than not making it through customs/immigration in an hour.
And if you don't make the 7:15 flight, there's plenty of time to head into Jakarta: the DAMRI buses will still be running.

i guess you ll need to queuie for a visa on arrival. then you need to wait for your luggage...stay the night then leave next day. maybe even stay bogor...

" . . . then you need to wait for your luggage. . ."
" . . . but i won't have to claim baggage since i've only got carry-on . . ."

Thats not enough..'3 hours would be a minimum. DOnt forget u need 1 hour to check in with the next flight

I would risk it if your JAL flight is ON TIME! Theoretically you do need at least an hour for internal flight check-in. But I've done it a few times with less in the last couple of years without check-in baggage (twice with only 35-40 minutes to spare!). Bear in mind that your internal flight is also likely to be delayed especially that late in the day.

As #1
Garuda flights to Yogya go from the international terminal as far as I know, so you do not have to lose time changing terminals. I think Lion also do, but I am not sure.
Usually it does not take long to get the Visa on Arrival, about 5-10 minutes in my experience, but I have only done it about 5 times. Immigration can be longer but is very variable - from maybe 5 to 30 minutes, though vary rarely in my 100+ arrivals there it has been much longer, maybe 1 hour..
If the JAL flight is on time I think you will make it.
Garuda may cost more than Lion.
Without bags I have done a Garuda domestic check-in with no luggage 10 minutes before the flight - they kindly called the gate to ask the plane to wait for me! But I assume that is not normal service. I have done it many times in well under 1 hour, but not for a couple of years, and security may take longer now.

PS If you don't make the connection there is a hotel booking desk in the luggage claim area and they have good rates.
If you go into town take a Silverbird (deluxe taxi, a bit more expensive) or Bluebird Group or Express. Avoid Pretasi and Ratax.
There is a transit hotel inside the airport called something like Quality Bandara Hotel, about US$60-75 I think.

its just will make you in a hurry...
the problem beside time is..will there be any seat left for that time?!
i think it will be better for you to take the next morning flight..
1st, you wont be arrived in yogya late at night that can make you feel free to have everything set up better
2nd, a time off is good for you anyway before the next journey
good luck!
