I found this article in the Jakarta Post today.
http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2016/08/21/jokowi-pushes-for-faster-development-of-lake-toba.html

I was there a couple of weeks ago and spoke to the man at the Tourist Office, opposite Elios restaurant. I asked about how people using the new airport could get to Tuk Tuk . It seemed that they had to go the long way around the island by a succession of angkots thus negating any time advance gained by using a plane.

This article sounds as though this type of thing is being addressed - I hope it all works out. But I would hate for its unique laid back atmosphere to be destroyed.

There isn't much detail but I presume all that will come out later.

This looks like an interesting new thing for Danau Toba . I wish I were still there to have seen it but I have to endure the hardships of Bukit Lawang instead.
