i also understand there are several elephant sancturys, which you can pay to ride elephants, has any one been to one of these, and which one would be considered the better one to go to (ie that the animals are well looked after, etc)

Hi Anna,
We stayed at this hotel in January but the name escapes me! Anyway a rough description of where it is - it is on the main road heading to the main shops/restaurants area of Lovina about 10 minutes before, as you are going towards the west. It is on the beach side of the road and there is also an entrance off a lane way leading down to the beach. It dosn't have beach access but the beach isn't all that good anyway.

The hotel has an old part and a new part with the dolphin pools in between. There is also a small childrens play area, big chess game and seating area around the dolphins. The small zoo has monkeys, birds, other small animals, reptiles and fish in tanks and a orang utan/monkey? that will spit down at you and pick bits of the concrete wall off to flick down at you. It is a real character.

To swim with the dolphins you book at reception, for a family ticket it cost us 150,000, can't remember if it was half hour or one hour. There are cameras all around the pool so there is no chance of taking a quick midnight dip with them, must have a ticket.

The room we had was next to the deer enclosure and the side window looked straight into their area, also a gate off our terrace into the deer area. Different! I think it cost 350,000 per night for the room, including breakfast. The room had nice decor and was spacious, unfortunately the lazy housekeeping hadn't bothered to put clean sheets on the bed which we discovered late at night. Don't let that put you off but do check the bed linen......

Even the reception area is really nice and there are a couple of shops too. There is a normal swimming pool and a restaurant. Definitely worth staying at !
