Hello All,

I am a recently tuned 33 year old single female who will be visiting Bali on my own within the month. I am wondering if anyone can recommend some more social places to stay or frequent in Seminyak and/or Ubud and/or Nusa Lembongan for solo travellers like myself?

I am over the crazy club, drink-all-the-time, scene. I do like pubs, beach bars, and perhaps late night dancing but am definitely NOT looking for a crazy hostel environment or all day parties. I'd also like to avoid crowds of drunk teenagers. I am a very social person who also enjoys curling up on a beach chair with a book.

I'm looking for a quieter guesthouse perhaps with a common meeting area or restaurant attached. I am looking to connect with new, cool, people also in their early thirties. I have done quite a bit of research and am finding it hard to pinpoint where I should avoid and where I should go, given my demographic.

Any advice from those more mature travellers who have visited Bali before is certainly welcome!

Cheers!

Places I stayed in Bali are -

1) Nusa Dua - Hotel Grand Nikko Bali
2) Seminyak - Seminyak Beach Resort & Spa.

Both are nice Hotels with Bars, Swimming Pools & Beaches adjoining them.

At UBUD, you can enjoy Village Life, Traditional Houses, Food, Shopping, etc. :-)

Go to Lembongan, but stay in the cheaper accom so that you meet people. If you choose somewhere upmarket you will be surrounded by families. You need to pick the bungalows where divers and surfers stay, so on the beach or very near. I just turned 35 last week whilst solo on Lembongan. I am now in Seminyak and wish I had just stayed there! Lembongan is less crowded, less pretentious and just a better mix of young and older folk. I have travelled a lot as a solo female and Seminyak is truly tiresome. The beach is also terrible in comparison to Lembongan.

Thank you for the helpful responses!
Perhaps, to flip the question at hand, is there anywhere specific (actual bars or areas, not cities) people would recommend avoiding as a thirty-something female?

You will probably know right away which places to stay away from..there are just too many to count.. On the other hand, its easy to avoid bars completely if you don't want that scene. It all depends on what you want...wait until you get here and play it by ear. chances are any speciic bars peoples mention will be far away from where you are anyway...

Also, there are crazy weather patterns on right now so do take that into mind if you want to be on the beach..

And do try to get away from the preconceived notion of demographics in Indonesia. Indonesians do ask your age a lot but just to be friendly and get to know you. If you go around only wanting to associate with people in their 30's it will restrict your social life somewhat. :((
