Does anyone know what the seas are like between Padang and the Mentawai Islands at the moment? I want to go trekking there but have just heard the seas may be too choppy to get there at the moment

Hi Eddy,
I have always heard that July is not such a good month for the seas. On my first visit to Padang in 1997 I wanted to go to the Mentawai Islands but my Indonesian friend said the seas were too rough to go across which was disappointing and after 7 visits I still have not got there yet.
Where are you now? In West Sumatra.

Another suggestion would be to visit the guys at Surf Aid International in Padang and see what they are doing- see if any of them are going over to the islands. They should be able to give you an honest account of what is happening re the seas etc.
