Hey there,

After tips from the forum we decided to visit mt. Bromo from malang tomorrow after taking the night train ( 12 - 7am ) from yogya. However after looking around we cannoy find aand suitable way to do malang to mt bromo and back in one day. By scooter we have to go to probolingo which is 120km further. By train we can go locally to probolingo and maybe take a taxi, but we arent certain. I read that scooters arent rented anymore from probolingo. I want to,know how can i without a fixed tour visit bromo from malang please ? We will try to get more info tomorrow morning. Anyone thay done this ??

It's Malang-Tumpang-Jemplang-Bromo. I've not taken a motorbike on this route though I've rented a jeep but I've seen local tourists using motorbikes & trail bikes.
PM me if you need more info about renting motorbikes.

Alright for anyone who wants to go from malang to bromo here is the best info I can provide. We wanted to go today but hated to pay for a tour. We asked around and looked on the internet but the info we found wasnt clear enough and we dont have much time to waste in malang so we had to be succesful. We ended up spending 1,6 mill roupie for a private transport but want to prevent future adventurers so here is the best I can do. If this benefited you please leave a confirmation to keep it up to date. It is very easy to go to bromo from malang. Rent a motorcycle or a manual scooter. No automatics because it will get way to steep for those. Drive to tumpang first. Head further to gubukklakah. All easy roads minor hills. Go to ngadas. From ngadas you leave the scooter and take a jeep which you can easy do with at the city there and around people offering it OR keep on driving to bromo yourself. Important info is that around gunung seruk is the ticket office. 215'000 rps. Use maps.me app as gps it is the best to use everywhere ! If you take a jeep problem solved. It takes you to bromo for a walk and sightsee which is very fun to be honest. If you take a scooter then here is the info : the road keeps on going beyond ngadas. It gets very steep. I saw many indo on manuals with two so it can handle it. Would prefer enduro as motorcyclist myself though .. at certain point you go down, into the area around bromo which is flat and named the Sea of sand. I would not do this myself as if it rains it will be hard but there are many indo with scooter who have done it. If you have time, go slow and safe you can scooter it but it will be very very hard. Only for experienced motorcyclist. Trust me. I even saw enduro and manual scooters until the stairs at bromo. So it depends. If you done laos driving like thaket loop you will get the idea of how it will be. But either way is possible. I hope to inform plenty people this way.
