Hi,
If you are going to be staying in one place like you mention above and are just going to be doing day trips you should not be too inconvienced. I guess if you are on a motor bike the roads will be a lot busy so maybe best to keep off them for a few days.
You will probably get invited to peoples' houses to eat- that happened to me in Bukit Lawang last year- I ate non stop for days. It was really difficult tryiing to fit in all the invitations to come to everyone's houses.
I was even invited before the celebration days and watched all the food being prepared- it was so much fun.

Thanks Pamela, it is only the travelling I am worried about, I just have to make sure I arrive in Toba before people start travelling or spend some time in KL or Sing and wait till after things got back to normal before going to Sumatra.
