Hi Everyone, I am planning to go with some friends to Parapat from Medan but im not sure what time the buses from Medan stop or how to take the kijang to Parapat as an alternative. We are all students so time isnt an issue only money really is. The flights would be arriving in Medan at 930PM thus, we are concerned about reaching Parapat. Also if anyone knows where it is possible to book cheap accommodation in advance, please let me know! Thanks.

The cheapest accommodation doesn't need booking . If you are flying into Medan at 9 :30 pm then its not worth trying to reach Lake Toba . Stay the night in Medan in a guesthouse then go to Toba the next day . Unless you have particular reason to stay in Parapat its cheaper and more pleasant to stay in Tuk Tuk on Samosir Island.

You might find it better to go to Parapat and spend the night there so you can take the ferry to Tuk tuk early in the morning. I don't think there are buses from the airport but there will be shared taxis for a reasonable amount (about IDR80,000 = AUD8) -- I always use them these days. If you are enough you can probably get one to yourselves for this price or less. Ask at the airport when you arrive. Get money and SIM cards there too.

A private transfer from the airport to Tiga Raja pier Parapat for the ferry to Tuk Tuk is about SGD45-60 depending on the type of car. There are reasonably clean accommodations near the pier for about SGD25-50 (4 pax/room possible).
I would do as #2 & get the morning ferry crossing. The ferry crew will ask which guesthouse you want to be dropped off.
