Can anybody recommend any reasonably-prices places to stay in the M Blok area of Jakarta? Im looking
to spend under $20/nite and am looking for a basic accomodation. I do not want to stay in that backpackers
area of Jakarta, if it can be avoided. Also, what is the best way from the airport to the M BLOK area? Is there
a bus, or is taxi the only option? Thank you!

Any particular reason you want to stay in Blok M?

There is an OK looking small hotel on the west side of Blok M, roughly facing Blok M Plaza.
It is on Jalan Panglima Polim... the big one that becomes Fatmawati a bit further south after you cross Jl. Melawai.
I guess it would be around 200,000 or so. Can't remember its name, sorry.

You could also look on http://www.goindotel.com/</a>, they may have something. You can email them - their rates are very good usually, but they do not always reply.

The area is likely to be given as Kebayoran Baru rather than Blok M.
There are 2 branches of Hotel Melawai which may be in that price range or a bit more (I am just guessing):
- an older one on Jalan Melawi, formerly called the Interhouse and famous for its massage parlour (but also used as a resular hotel)
- a newer one, looks nice, just down a side street roughly opposite. It may be called Hotel Melawi II.

These two are listed on http://wikitravel.org/en/Jakarta/South</a>:<BR> Juseny, Jl. Senayan 29, Block S, Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta Selatan 12190. Tel.: (62)(21) 720 6565. Fax.: (62)(21) 7208304. Class: 1 star. Price: approx. US$ 16/person.
Kebayoran Inn. Jl. Senayan 87, Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta 12180. Tel.: (62)(21) 724-6208. Fax: (62)(21) 739-8926. Price: approx. US$ 21/person.
I don't know them or that street.

#1 Radson: There are reasons to stay there. Shopping from the posh plazas down to the street markets (including the flower and animal/pet markets nearby). Japanese and Korean restaurants in "little Tokyo". Dodgy expat bars in Jalan Falatahan. Good transport links including the Busway. Cinemas, 10 pin bowling, etc.
